Customer Review: Owned mine for 4 yrs and love it.
I have owned this model for 4 yrs and love it. I use it daily and find it easy to operate. I have never had it leak and coffee does not dribble when poured. The opening to pour water into is a little small but not a big deal and easy to overcome. My coffee stays hot for a good 2 hours. I have gotten a few grounds in my coffee when the paper filter collapses(a rare occurrence) but that was more an issue of making sure the paper filter is in properly as the same thing used to occur with other models I have owned over the years. I did find the carbon filter replacements hard to find so I did throw mine away after a couple months. You can clean the inside of the carafe with a bottle brush or a brush made for cleaning inside drinking glasses which is what I use. The outside of the carafe is very easy to keep clean and after 4 yrs mine still looks like new. My coffee maker just died on me today after 4 yrs of daily use and here I am on Amazon searching for the exact model so I can purchase another one. The price in comparison to other similar models is terrific. Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with this coffeemaker and the value is exceptional.
Customer Review: Great Portability - Great coffee - Bad reviewers are being nit-picky!
Ok, I nearly was pushed away by the bad reviews on this appliance but decided to give it a try. I bought it about a month ago & I really like it. I have to start by saying that I am religious about my coffee. I only drink it if it is good coffee & prepared well. I grind my beans & I only use fresh coffee. I am very picky about every aspect of coffee drinking, it isn't a habit for me but rather an experience. With that said, I have 'tested' each of the problems mentioned in the reviews & here is what I found: Leaking & overflowing - I have never had that problem after weeks of use, I am not sure why one of the posters had this problem, maybe they overfilled it. Coffee grains in coffee - Nope, no problem here, the coffee is perfectly filtered with a paper filter. I haven't seen a grain of coffee yet! Coffee not staying warm - I find that if I keep the lid shut that the coffee stays nice & warm for over 2 hours. Hard to fill - Yes, this coffeemaker is a bit difficult to fill but as someone else suggested, I just use my sink sprayer to fill it & it is a breeze (thanks for the suggestion!). Doesn't pour quickly - Yes this is a bit of a slow pourer but I LOVE the caraffe so much that I won't complain about that at all. Patience is a virtue! Someone else complained that they couldn't clean the caraffe. It does have a small opening but I have found no reason to scrub it (coffee doesn't burn on the bottom like a burner coffeemaker). I rinse it out with some soap & warm water each day & it is fine. It would be easy enough to use a bottle brush as needed. At first I was disappointed with the strength of the coffee (I am a filter-press & espresso girl & I love it strong). So, I started adding quite a bit more coffee than what was suggested. Then one day, I forgot to put the carbon filter in. As a result, the coffee was very STRONG. So, from that point on, I used the 'regular' strength level and tossed my carbon filter into the garbage. It absolutely isn't needed, I didn't notice any change in flavor. So, bypass that silly expense! The main reason why I was intrigued by this coffeemaker is the caraffe. I love the portability. I can take it outside or into the living room to read a book or to the computer, etc. The coffee tastes just as good an hour later & there isn't the burnt taste you get from the burner-type coffeemakers. The clock & timers are self-explanitory & work well for me. The coffeemaker is very nice looking & looks great on my counter. I would recommend this coffeemaker to anyone who would enjoy the benefits & portability of the caraffe. It makes great coffee & has nice styling.
Easy availability of accessories and coffee maker parts is of utmost importance if you are to make the best machine. Durable or not, without any accessories, it can be severely restricting and can shorten the life of your appliance dramatically.
Carafes
Usually made of stainless steel or glass, the carafe is the detachable jug that collects the brewed coffee. Whereas glass carafes score over their stainless steel counterparts when it comes to elegant looks and price, stainless steel carafes are far more durable and will give you very good value for your money. If you like to have your drink on the go, you should consider buying a stainless steel thermal carafe, which lets you enjoy your drink for at least a couple of hours after brewing.
A dual carafe coffee maker is ideal for small cafes or in the office, where you need to be able to brew at least 10 or more cups at a time. With a single carafe model in the office, you could find yourself waiting a very long time for a fresh, hot cuppa.
Filters
Disposable and rather inexpensive, paper filters are the most commonly used. However, one of the major drawbacks with paper filters is that the natural oils from the beans tend to be get absorbed by the paper and there is a distinct loss of flavor.
When it comes to filters, gold tone or stainless steel filters are a better buy not only because they last longer but also because there is no loss of flavor whatsoever.
Filter Baskets
Typically employed in restaurants, filter baskets can hold a larger amount of coffee grounds and let you brew larger quantities of coffee at a time. Of the two types of filter baskets available cone filter baskets provide better drainage and extract the oils from the grounds more evenly thus producing a superior quality coffee with a richer taste. The poor drainage in flat filter baskets inhibits the oil and flavor extraction, which results in a poorer tasting brew.
Flavor Control
A handy little device that can be seen on a few models, the flavor control valve lets you make your drink just the way you want it by controlling the quantity and the pressure of the water that comes in contact with the coffee. Different models take different types of valves and you will need to know your exact model to ensure that you get the right valve.
Cleaner Packs
Though it can be quite a chore, regular cleaning is absolutely essential if you want to extend the life of your machine. These cleaner packs make easy work of cleaning your machine. When dissolved in water and poured into the water reservoir, the powdery contents of the pack dislodge the buildup as well as any dirt and limescale deposits that may be formed. And because these descalers are devoid of any odors, you will not have to suffer through any strange tasting coffee immediately after you clean the appliance.
Before you buy a coffee machine for your home, it may be a good idea to check for the availability and price of the various parts and accessories so that you can enjoy fresh tasting coffee for many years to come.
